The once a year conference for all things Canvas is not your traditional edtech event. The youthful staff at Instructure are the creators and maintainers of the learning management system (LMS), Canvas.
This year’s conference was held at the Keystone Ski Resort in Keystone, Colorado July 18 through July 21, 2016. There were a total of 2,200 attendees from all over the world at InstructureCon this year.
More than twenty representatives from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses attended the conference. John Johnston of ITS, Alexandra Stark, and Diana Perpich of the Library presented sessions.
Faculty attendees from the University of Michigan included Brenda Gunderson - Statistics, Anne Manuel - Political Science, Peter Bodary - Kinesiology and Martha Schulte-Nafe - Near Eastern Studies.
Professor Manuel reported that she found the enthusiasm for Canvas at the conference inspiring and was very interested in the topics of Quizzes and Rubrics. She is also exploring the use of some of the more powerful Canvas assessment tools in her fall classes.
