With the fall rush and more students back on campus, LSA Technology Services is back at full strength. For BlueCorps, that means that all of our student employees are back and ready to assist new and returning students, staff, and faculty during our regular hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
What is BlueCorps?
BlueCorps is a team of U-M students who work in LSA Technology Services located on the second floor of the Modern Languages Building, just inside the entrance of the Media Center. All of our BlueCorps consultants are student employees, which bring expertise in understanding the student perspective on all of the technology needed to succeed in classes and extracurricular activities at the University of Michigan.BlueCorps considers the time they spend with faculty and students “Technology Tutoring.” Much like academic tutoring, our goal is to teach students and faculty how to use the technology in new and efficient ways, so that they are more confident when they have to implement it in the classroom.
What can BlueCorps help with?
BlueCorps consultants can help with application support—anything from Adobe Creative Cloud to LockDown Browser and iClicker. Consultants can help with any of the software listed on our website.
As the need for remote learning has necessitated adaptable ways of teaching and learning, the ways to interact with us have evolved with it. If you have quick questions, we have walk-in availability during our regular hours, but you can also drop in via the BlueCorps Zoom link. Additionally, BlueCorps consultants can give full walkthroughs and introductions to an application by scheduling a consultation on our website ahead of time. This will give our student consultants time to prepare to support your specific needs, so we can make the most of your time. Consultations can be in-person or via Zoom.
For faculty looking for in-class assistance, BlueCorps also offers a variety of workshops that can be tailored specifically to any assignment. Our most popular workshops are for video editing, podcasting, and graphic design. With the Adobe Creative Cloud being free for all U-M students, staff, and faculty, there is a wide array of software available to beginners and professionals alike. Our workshops enable us to do technology tutoring on a large scale, teaching an entire course of students to use a specific software to complete their assignment.
