Technology Services announces its new directors

by Cathy Curley

I wanted to share some exciting news with you as we continue to evolve how we provide integrated solutions and technology services to you. As of today, July 1st, I am restructuring the LSA Technology Services organization in order to accomplish our strategic goals:

  • Enhance existing services and offer new services.

  • Provide faculty and staff easier access to service.

  • Increase staff opportunities to support development and advancement.

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I share with you my decisions on our new leadership team and structure. These leaders have all made significant contributions to defining and providing our great services, partnering with others and have great vision and enthusiasm for working together — across our organization — to leading our teams to achieving our Vision.

Please join me in congratulating our directors!

Mark Bacon, Operational Effectiveness

As Director for Operational Effectiveness, Mark is responsible for the strategy, design, and implementation of cross-organizational centers of excellence, capabilities, and processes to improve the integration and effectiveness of the organization. Mark brings extensive process improvement experience both from his prior role as Vice President, Merchandise Planning and Analysis with Borders and within LSA as the Senior Manager for Management Information Systems. In this new role, Mark is excited to provide leadership across multiple functions and capabilities including: governance, relationship management, project management, data integration and analytics, communications, change management, inventory and asset management, service quality assurance, and organizational effectiveness measures.

Mark helped start and has continued to be involved with LSA’s Week of Service event during the past two years. He enjoys exploring opportunities to give back to our surrounding community and is thankful the college supports staff involvement in that area. Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, and is actively involved with coaching youth sports in the Ann Arbor/Dexter area.

He is looking forward to harnessing the positive and creative energy within the talented group of people who make up the Web and Application Development Services team. Pat is excited to further develop staff and help the team leverage the diversity of resources available in order to provide a great digital experience for our faculty, students, and staff!

Pat enjoys golf, travelling, and spending time at his small cottage on Strawberry Lake with his dog Pike. He has four amazing children—one in LA, one in NYC, and two in Lansing.

As Director for Academic Technologies Services, Moni is responsible for the strategy, design, implementation, and curricular integration of effective pedagogies, innovative instructional technologies, and ensure excellent classroom experiences, as well as the creation of new teaching and learning spaces (both formal and informal; both virtual and in-person) across the college. Moni’s commitment to the liberal arts and the instructional mission of the college is demonstrated through her contributions as previous Director of the Language Resource Center and founding Director of Instructional Support Services. In this new role, Moni looks forward to exploring new technologies to promote LSA’s instructional mission and strengthening collaboration and innovations with other U-M schools and colleges, as well as working with LSA Facilities, the Registrar’s Office, and the Provost’s Office on classroom master planning. She will work closely with LSA Undergraduate Education, Chairs and Directors, the College Curriculum Committee, and college student services staff to develop strategy and prepare for new modalities in instruction and student learning and implement means to scale academic and instructional innovations in the undergraduate curriculum.

Moni has her BA from Northwestern and MA and PhD in Germanic Linguistics from the University of Michigan. She taught in the German Departments of Indiana University and U-M before turning to the dark side of administration.
