There has been confusion about LED lights on different audiovisual technology in classrooms. Some students believe they are being recorded when they are not. Green LED lights on devices in classrooms and other spaces on campus simply indicate to our technicians that the device is receiving power, or other status indications. Additionally, LED lights are on a wide variety of equipment, not only recording devices. Rest assured, recordings are only made when lecture capture is requested by an instructor for a class, or an organization for a scheduled event. We advise all instructors to let students know when the lecture is being recorded, so as to alleviate concerns immediately, but also remind them of the available resources available for their class. While Classrooms can be used by individuals, keep in mind they are public spaces. If you would like to have a private conversation, or a personal video conference, please use one of the many appropriate spaces available on campus, such as the Media Rooms in the LSA Technology Services Media Center on the second floor of the Modern Languages Building, or a small conference or huddle room such as in the LSA Building. That way, you can plan on having privacy and not being interrupted.
