The Sweetland Center for Writing invites instructors of Upper-Level Writing
Requirement courses to nominate student essays that are innovative, complex and
thoughtfully respond to an assignment. Essays should be of 2,500 words or fewer for any
2010 course that fulfilled the LS&A Upper-Level Writing Requirement.

Two winning entries will be selected in each of three areas: Science, Social Science, and
Humanities. The winners will receive $150 and will be published in collection of
excellent upper-level student writing.

Please nominate up to two student papers by sending the name of the student, uniqname,
paper title, course name and number, a brief statement attesting to this paper's excellence,
and a description of the prompt to SweetlandULWRprize@umich.edu.

Nominated students will be notified in January. Winners will be announced in March
followed by an awards presentation in April.
