SHM Submajor Requirements
Students have the option of adding a submajor in Sociology of Health & Medicine to their Sociology major. Courses in the SHM submajor offer students a coherent curriculum that emphasizes the socio-demographic, cultural, political, and ethical dimensions of health behavior and health policy.
Elective Credits
As a part of the major elective credits, students must complete at least 12 credit hours with a C- or better from the following list of approved courses.
- A minimum of 8 credits of which must be elected in the SHM submajor at the 300-level or above

Credit Limits
A maximum of 6 credits for the SHM sub plan may come from Experiential Learning or Independent Study style courses. This includes but is not limited to SOC 225, 325, 391, 394, 395, 396, 468, and 488.
