Lanora Johnson

I study rural poverty and gender inequality. My dissertation work will focus on how economic decline impacts gendered family and romantic relationships, using ethnographic and interview data in Central Appalachia. I have worked on projects exploring the effects of regional disadvantage on women's dating lives, as well as on campus anti-sexual violence activism. My research interests include rural poverty, gender inequality, sexual and intimate partner violence, social movements, and stratification.
