Shane Bernardo, Outreach Coordinator, Earthworks Urban Farm

 

Shane Bernardo is a native Detroiter and activist in southeast Michigan’s food justice movement.  Mr. Bernardo serves as Outreach Coordinator for Earthworks Urban Farm, a nonprofit organization committed to improved access to safe food for all.  Earthworks operates the Garden Resource Program to provide resources for thousands of Detroiters to grow their own food, works with SEED Wayne to create “healthy corner stores” in the community, supports the Field of Our Dreams mobile produce truck, and is actively involved in developing economic opportunities in Detroit’s urban food system.  Mr. Bernardo studied Industrial Design at the Center for Creative Studies and worked in the automotive field as an illustrator, mechanical designer and machinist. In addition to serving as Outreach Coordinator for Earthworks Urban Farm in Detroit, he has served as a mentor with the Detroit Asian Youth Project, a member of the Undoing Racism in the Detroit Food System facilitation team, and a founding member of the artist collective AFRO (Art From Reclaimed Objects).
