The Science Learning Center (SLC) provides direct support to students through study groups, tutoring, workshops, and special events, including the Tutor Summit and Interconnected: An SLC Pixel Project. Each year we support thousands of U-M students, including many aspiring STEM majors, helping them succeed in many of the most challenging courses offered at the University. Our programs meet the critical needs of students, particularly for students historically underrepresented in the STEM fields, with study group facilitators and tutors guiding students in their learning outside the classroom and developing their metacognitive skills. Through innovative technology combined with a strong sense of purpose and community, SLC programs help support the next generation of scientists, health care professionals, and industry, non-profit, and government leaders tackling the world’s most challenging programs.

Giving Opportunities
The SLC Strategic Fund maximizes the impact of every dollar donated by directing funds directly to student support. A donor who funds a new Academic Coaching Program would have a transformative impact on student learning and development. Too often introductory science courses push students out of the STEM fields and our Academic Coaching Program and Success in STEM videos would provide students the skills they need to conquer these challenging classes.
