Workshop & Dinner
The Interdisciplinary Music Forum at the University of Michigan is proud to announce the schedule for our Fall Residency with Professor Richard Leppert (Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature, University of Minnesota). Dr. Leppert will be here November 19-20 to conduct a workshop related to his research and meet individually with interested graduate students. The Interdisciplinary Music Forum's theme for the year is "The Materials of Musical Culture," so Dr. Leppert will be addressing topics related to the acquisition and use of sources. His research interests include musicology, art history, critical theory, cultural studies, and the work of Theodor Adorno. He is the author of such publications as The Sight of Sound: Music, Representation, and the History of the Body and The Nude: The Cultural Rhetoric of the Body in the Art of Western Modernity. In addition, he has edited several books, among which are Beyond the Soundtrack: Representing Music in Cinema and Theodor Adorno: Essays in Music. For further information about his research and publications, please see http://cscl.umn.edu/people/profile.php?UID=leppe001.
The workshop will be November 19, 4:30-6:30 in the Osterman Common Room of the Insitute for the Humanities. Following the workshop, dinner will be provided for all participants in Room 3308 of the Modern Languages Building. Professor Leppert will also be available to meet individually with graduate students from 10 AM - 3 PM on Friday, November 19 and from 9 AM-11 AM on Saturday, November 20. These individual meetings have always provided students with a great opportunity to discuss their own research interests, ask questions, and receive valuable feedback from our guest speakers.
We would like to invite any interested grad students to sign up for a meeting with Professor Leppert by contacting Jessica Getman at [email protected]
