If you're a prospective student interested in the U.P. Scholars Program, the most important item on your to-do list is to apply to the University of Michigan. Our team will begin identifying candidates from the Early Action pool of admitted students, so the sooner you apply, the better.
Read below to learn more about the process as well as important deadlines you'll want to mark on your calendar.
U.P. Scholars are selected after they have been admitted to the University of Michigan. This means that the first step in becoming a U.P. Scholar is applying to U-M! We strongly encourage all students to submit their application by the Early Action Deadline of November 1st, 2023. However, students who apply by the Regular Decision Deadline of February 1st, 2024 will also be considered.
Once you have submitted your application to the University of Michigan, make sure you complete all the necessary steps in Step Two to apply for financial aid. After that, you can sit back, relax, and wait for your admissions decision.
If you have questions about the application, please connect with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions!
Students must apply for financial aid, which includes completing both the FAFSA and CSS Profile, in order to be considered for the U.P. Scholars Program. We recommend completing the FAFSA and CSS Profile as soon as possible. The Office of Financial Aid has a suggested filing deadline of December 15th, 2023. For more information or assistance, please visit the Office of Financial Aid's website here: https://finaid.umich.edu/apply-aid/new-undergraduates
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-2025 academic year is expected to be available to students in December at no cost. U-M's federal code is 002325
The CSS Profile for the 2024-2025 academic year will open on October 1st, 2023. U-M's CSS code is 1839. While there is a small cost associated with the CSS Profile, qualifying students will receive an automatic fee waiver from the College Board when providing their income information
Students who are admitted to LSA should complete the LSA Four-Year Scholarship Application to be considered for the U.P. Scholars Program. These applications are reviewed on a rolling basis so we encourage you to submit your scholarship application as soon as possible after being admitted to U-M. The LSA Four-Year Scholarship Application closes on April 15th.
When selecting students for the U.P. Scholars Program, our team will review your admissions application to the University of Michigan. To supplement that, we invite you to submit two short written responses to share further how growing up and living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has shaped you. You will be asked to respond to the following two prompts:
1. How has your experience growing up or living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan informed and shaped your educational and professional goals? (250 word limit)
2. Students in the U.P. Scholars Program participate in cohort-based activities designed to foster a supportive community at U-M. Please tell us how you have made an impact in a community you are a part of through service or leadership and how you would contribute to our U.P. Scholars community. (250 word limit)
More detailed information on completing the LSA Four-Year Scholarship Application will be sent to all students shortly after they are admitted to LSA!
Students admitted to other schools and colleges will be selected based on their application to U-M with no additional applications are required
