In fall 2020, the University of Michigan will welcome its first cohort of U.P. Scholars, building a new community tailored to support incoming students from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A partnership between the College of LSA, the Ross School of Business, and the Office of Financial Aid, this program will provide distinct opportunities and individualized support from staff who understand and value the unique experiences of U.P. students.
Who We Are
Support. Community. Success. This is the foundation on which we are built. From Gogebic to Chippewa counties, U.P. Scholars hail from every part of the Upper Peninsula. We are driven by a shared desire for academic and professional excellence, not just to better ourselves, but so that we can bring our best to our communities.
What We Do
The U.P. Scholars Program will provide substantial scholarship aid for four years of undergraduate study at U-M exclusively to incoming students from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. But the U.P. Scholars Program will reach far beyond financial support, providing incredible resources tailored to help you thrive at Michigan. U.P. Scholars receive:
- individualized, one-on-one coaching with professional staff.
- social events to build friendship and camaraderie.
- exclusive leadership development opportunities.
- workshops tailored to the unique perspectives of U.P. students.
- shared community service activities.
- critical connections to personalized academic and professional resources.
A Home Away From Home
From the moment you join the U.P. Scholars, you will find a community of support. Dedicated staff will provide personalized guidance as you navigate enrollment and prepare for life at U-M. And, once you arrive in Ann Arbor, help will always be a phone call, email, or drop-in visit away. From professional staff to your peers, you will be surrounded by a community that truly feels like your home away from home.
