Spanish AP - Students Entering UM Fall 2021 and Thereafter

New policy in effect for students who enter the University in Fall 2021 and thereafter.

* Spanish 232 credits satisfy the LSA language requirement and can only be earned once for the AP language OR literature test. 

† 3 additional credits for 279x and/or 294x will be awarded after completing Spanish 277, Spanish 278 or RCLANG 324 with a grade of "B" or better. Students who take both AP lang and AP lit will get 3 credits for Spanish 279x and 3 credits for Spanish 294x after completing 277 its equvalent with a B or better. 

**Spanish 279x credits count toward the Spanish major or minor as a 279-399 level course.

***Spanish 274x credits count toward the Spanish major as a 279-399 level elective and the Spanish minor as a 279-399 level literature course. 

+ Spanish 278 is an equivalent course to Spanish 277 but intended for heritage speakers of Spanish and/or bilingual students wishing to improve their Spanish skills in formal writing and speaking.  The course is primarily designed for those who have experienced Spanish as their native language (or as one of their native languages) while growing up.

Concurrent Enrollment: Students receiving Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) Spanish credit are allowed concurrent registration in Spanish 277 (or 278) and Spanish courses numbered 279-399, if they wish.  Students must contact rll.mailbox@umich.edu to request this concurrent registration.
