About
Hi there, I'm Nicholas.
I'm an avid hiker originally from Upstate NY and I'm a PhD candidate here at the University of Michigan. I'm also a high school French teacher at the Academy of the Holy Names (Albany, NY). My dissertation explores what a video gaming lens reveals about the roles of games in medieval French narrative, and how game and text work together to create meaning. From feminist and queer game design to digital environments, my project situates itself between medieval studies and video game studies.
As a Digital Studies Certificate and Graduate Teaching Certificate candidate, I strive to implement digital tools in the classroom as well as in my own research. Certain digital frameworks and platforms can help teachers innovate pedagogical methods in higher education. In the past, I have helped develop a language-learning video game based on the medieval text “The Voyage of St. Brendan,” intended to help undergraduates explore the digital 12th century.
