About
I work on early modern French literature, with a current focus on friendship and gender. My master’s thesis considers the role of intellectual kinship in the works of Madeleine and Catherine des Roches and Marie de Gournay, comparing the influence this exerts on their success as writers, and questions if we can or indeed should create a clearer, accepted definition of the famille d'alliance and related terms. More broadly, I am interested in the act of labelling genres, concepts, and periods; I envision that this will lie at the heart of my doctoral research. My enthusiasm for pedagogy and Digital Humanities has inspired me to think of new ways to use technology and other media to share my research and interests with a much wider audience beyond the traditional academic community.
