Translocas: The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance, by Larry La-Fountain Stokes, was announced as the winner of the 2023 U-M Press Award.

Larry is Chair of American Culture, professor of Spanish and professor of Women’s and Gender Studies. This book discusses Latinx transgender and drag performance as political, cultural, and diasporic movements.

Translocas: The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance has also received a Frank Bonilla Book Award Honorable Mention from the Puerto Rican Studies Association (PRSA) in 2022 and was a co-winner of the Sylvia Rivera Award in Transgender Studies Fellowship from the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies (CLAGS) at the City University of New York in 2021.
