We would like to congratulate Sabine Gabaron who has won the 2022 Matthews Underclass Teaching Award.

The Matthews Award recognizes an instructor who is able to inspire wonder and excitement in early undergraduate students. Former students speak of Sabine as tremendously caring, going far out of her way to be available for them, encouraging them, “cultivating an engaging and meaningful classroom environment” full of creative opportunities to engage.

Sabine began teaching in RLL in the fall semester of 1996. During her time in RLL she has taught and coordinated a number of courses in the French section, including a wildly popular course on French comic books.

Faculty from RLL have won the Matthews Underclass Teaching Award in five out of the last six years. Previous winners include Paulina Alberto, Tatiana Calixto, Stephanie Goetz, and María Dorantes. This is the third consecutive year that RLL has won this award.
