Episode 12 - RC's Telling It Program: Empowering Community Through the Arts (27:04) March 1, 2019

Theory and practice converge in RC's Telling It, a program that facilitates six after school groups of youth in four locations in Washtenaw County. U-M students enroll in a course led by RC faculty member, Telling It founder Deb Gordon-Gurfinkel, taking them on a journey that touches on sociology, education theory, current political events, psychology, and self-awareness. Then they go out into the community, along with Deb and a social worker, to create engaging activities that help the youth express themselves, oftentimes working through trauma. RC Podcast Episode 12 takes you into engaging conversations with Deb, a former Telling It student, and RC director Jon Wells, plus you'll hear from a major partner to the program, Washtenaw County Sheriff Jerry L. Clayton, and a handful of Telling It youth poets. Read the transcription of this episode here.

We’re thrilled that Telling It has been selected as one of six non-profit beneficiaries of the University of Michigan Athletics Big House 5K presented by Toyota, that will weave through campus and end at the 50 yard line at Michigan Stadium. The race is on April 7th! Once registration reaches capacity, we encourage you to support Telling It by making a donation on the registration site, or volunteering on behalf of Telling It.

We are doubly thrilled to report that on that same day, the U-M Student-Athlete Advisory Council will put on Mock Rock, a fundraiser that began in 1999. Telling It has been chosen to be the beneficiary of this event, in which U of M Athletics teams put on skits, songs, and other merriment for an audience and panel of judges. Mock Rock will also be held on April 7th at Cliff Keen Arena at 4:30pm and tickets will be available soon on mgoblue.com. We are honored and excited to partner with U of M Athletics and the U of M Student Athlete Advisory Council on these events.
