I am interested in the mechanisms through which disadvantage may influence cognitive development. In particular, I am interested in the development of inhibitory control, the neural mechanisms underlying these skills, and the ways in which proximal contextual factors such as parenting or neighborhood disadvantage may affect these outcomes. I am interested in using genetically-informed designs to investigate the extent to which the effects of disadvantage undermine the development of inhibitory control via non-heritable pathways. I would like to use this work to develop effective, scientifically-informed policies, as well as public outreach programs to help all children have the opportunity to succeed in school.
