Lilia Cortina will receive the 2022 President’s Award for Public Impact, a selection made by University of Michigan President Santa J. Ono. According to the Office of the President, this award “honors an individual who has offered their academic research and expertise in tangible service of a major public sector challenge, at the scale of the community, state, nation or world.”

According to the University Record, Cortina has “published nearly 100 scientific articles, book chapters and opinion pieces, with much of her work receiving major news media coverage. . . [including] a landmark report on sexual harassment . . . commissioned by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that has been referenced in five proposed pieces of legislation and hearings.”

President Ono, reporting to the Record, had this to say about Cortina and Dr. Betsey Stevenson (who won the President’s Award for National and State Leadership): “My most sincere congratulations to Professors Cortina and Stevenson for their achievements and accolades, but even more for their leadership, scholarship and impact.”
