Watching too much television or too many movies is unlikely to melt your brain, but a new University of Michigan study shows that it may mold your mind.

University of Michigan postdoctoral fellow Julia Lippman and her colleagues found that college students who self-reported that they watched romantic movies tended to have a stronger belief that “love finds a away.”

"It is possible that frequent exposure to romance and courtship in this idealized form could lead viewers to adopt equally idealized notions about relationships in the real world," Lippman said.

Students who indicated that they watched marriage-themed reality TV shows such as “The Bachelor” or “Millionaire Matchmaker” were more inclined to believe in “love at first sight” and “true love.”
