GSI Teaching

Psychology Doctoral Students (including our Joint Programs) are required to teach throughout their tenure. Students must apply each term they are expected to teach.

Students must complete both the UM application and the Psych Department GSI Application.

  1. The UM application is located at umjobs.org. DO NOT submit additional materials
    (e.g., resume, cover letter, etc.,). These should be attached to the GSI
    Application Form. The GSI position will be posted for 2 weeks.
  2. The Psychology Department GSI Application is available on SharePoint and a link will be included in the email from the SAA Office. Carefully read and complete the application. Combine required documents in a single pdf and attach it to the application BEFORE submitting.

BOTH must be complete to be considered for a GSI position. 

BOTH are DUE in October. The exact deadline will be included in the email sent out by the SAA Office.

Tentative GSI assignments should be announced the last week of November.

Required Training for Hired GSIs

Attending the applicable trainings below is a condition of employment.

ALL FIRST-TIME GSIs are required to attend ALL 3 of the following trainings:

  1. Psychology Department New GSI Orientation (Tuesday, December 15th, 2015, 9am-1pm, Room TBA)
  2. Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) GSI Teaching Orientation (Tuesday, January 5th, 2016, 8:15am – 4:30pm, Michigan League)
  3. Psychology Department New GSI Follow Up (TBA - Late Jan. or Early Feb.)

 ALL RETURNING GSIs teaching in the PSYCH Dept. for the FIRST TIME are required to attend both:

  • Psychology Department New GSI Orientation (Tuesday, December 15th, 2015, 9am-1pm, Room TBA)
  • Psychology Department New GSI Follow Up (TBA - Late Jan. or Early Feb.)

ALL RETURNING GSIs, who have taught for the Psych Dept. in a prior term are required to complete:

  • One CRLT Seminar during the Winter 2016 term: CRLT events

Teaching Seminar Application

The Deadline for Fall 2017 applications is March 10, 2017.

The Deadline for Winter 2018 applications is August 30, 2017.
