Cognition & Cognitive Neuroscience and Biopsychology

Diversity Recruitment Weekend
Department of Psychology, University of Michigan

Join us to learn more about graduate studies in
Cognition & Cognitive Neuroscience and Biopsychology

The University of Michigan’s Department of Psychology is excited to announce a special graduate recruitment initiative, open to eligible undergraduates and recent graduates who:

  • Come from educational, cultural, or geographic backgrounds that are underrepresented in graduate study in their discipline in the United States or at the University of Michigan
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to diversity
  • Have experienced financial hardship as a result of family economic circumstances
  • And/or are first-generation U.S. citizens or are the first generation in their family to graduate from a four-year college

The Biopsychology area synthesizes research on the brain, behavior, and evolution. We study the proximate and ultimate causes of reward, decision-making, motivation, memory, emotion, attention, mating, and sociality. We draw on diverse theoretical approaches to understand animal behavior ranging from behavioral neuroscience to evolutionary biology, and utilize cutting-edge methods including in-vivo recording, optogenetics, and molecular biochemistry in the lab; and biological sampling, bio-logging, and long-term observations in the wild.

The Cognition & Cognitive Neuroscience area investigates human cognition and its relationship to the brain. We study perception, attention, executive control, language, emotion, decision-making, working memory, motivation, reward, motor control, and more. Our goal is to test psychological and neuroscientific theories of the mind, the brain, and their interaction in humans using state-of-the-art methodologies (e.g., behavior, EEG, intracranial EEG, functional MRI, TMS, computational modeling). We are also interested in real-world applications of our research.

Join us for a weekend of workshops and panel discussions designed to prepare students for the graduate admissions process, including developing a strong application, writing successful statements, and strategies for gaining research experience. Students will also have the opportunity to meet individually with faculty and current graduate students who share similar research interests. Students attending the event will learn about all the different graduate programs in psychology (in addition to Biopsychology and CCN) at the University of Michigan.

Diversity Recruitment Weekend is a completely FREE annual event conducted entirely online.

The application deadline has passed for Diversity Recruitment Weekend 2023. The application period typically begins in late summer, with the program taking place in October.
