How can we help? We have a process-oriented approach to pre-health advising, aimed at helping pre-health students develop the interpersonal skills, multicultural competencies, scientific knowledge, community service, and intellectual curiosity necessary to become successful, well-rounded future applicants to health professions graduate programs.
Virtual Pre-Health Drop-in advising provides support for all students of any class standing, regardless of school/college affiliation. Pre-Health Drop-Ins are available throughout the summer. NOTE: There will be no Pre-Health Drop-Ins on Friday, June 9th, Friday, June 16th, Friday, June 30th, Monday, July 3rd, Tuesday, July 4th, or Friday, July 28th.
We offer virtual drop-in advising hours every day of the week, Monday through Friday, 2:00-3:00 p.m. These short 5-10 minute meetings are designed to answer quick questions and provide support, information, and resources to pre-health students. Our pre-health team meets with students individually on a first-come, first-served basis. Advisors strive to see all students waiting in the queue on any given day, so even if you must wait a few minutes before being admitted to your appointment, we will make every effort to talk to each student. Your questions are important to us, and we are here to help.
You are encouraged to meet with any of our general academic advisors to discuss your interest in health professions and reflect on your "why." They will help you narrow your ideas, develop a plan for continued exploration, ensure you are making progress on required coursework, and help you figure out the next best step on your path.
We encourage you to meet with a pre-health advisor. However please be aware that appointments fill quickly, and the answers to some of your questions are likely available in our online pre-health content. If you still have questions after you've reviewed this material, please email the front desk (newnanfrontdesk@umich.edu) or call 734-764-0332 to make an appointment. If you are unable to schedule an appointment within the next three weeks of your call or email, we will take your contact information and provide you with additional online resources that may address your questions in the interim.
Non-LSA Students/Alumni
If you are not an LSA student or alum, please contact your school or college to determine if there is a dedicated pre-health advisor available to help you; if not, we suggest you contact the University Career Center for additional resources.
This podcast is designed for pre-health students and will help guide you during the exploration, preparation, and application phases of your pre-health journey. Code Maize is created by LSA pre-health advisors, Julie Nelson and Maria Raab. Stay tuned for more episodes throughout this semester!
