Political Science 299: Undergraduate Internship

Political Science 299 allows Political Science concentrators to receive credit (1 credit only) for about 160 hours of work in an approved job or internship position that enriches the student's academic experience and/or allows the student to explore careers related to his/her studies in Political Science.  The credit for POLSCI 299 does not count toward a student’s Political Science major requirements. The course is graded on a Credit/No Credit basis.

To receive credit:

  1. Students must obtain approval for the proposed job or internship from a POLISCI major advisor.  The internship must have some relevance to political science as a discipline. Examples of acceptable internship sites include campaigns, government offices, law firms, lobbying firms, and non-governmental organizations. Other private-sector sites may be acceptable if they are demonstrably engaged in political or public-sector activities.
  2. The internship supervisor must submit a letter on company letterhead confirming the satisfactory completion of the work described in the internship application (see below).

Students may receive fall or winter semester credit for an internship completed during spring and summer term.
