HEP - ASTRO SEMINAR | Gravitational and (Possible) Electromagnetic Signals from Compact Binaries

Monday, January 12, 2015
5:00 AM
335 West Hall

Direct detection of gravitational waves is likely (hopefully!) happening in less five years. Beyond what they can intrinsically tell us about gravity and the systems that produce them, an exciting prospect is to detect signals of multiple nature. This talk will examine main expected outcomes from relevant mergers and possible mechanisms that might induce electromagnetic counterparts as well as to discuss their key role in the future of gravitational wave astronomy.
