The Department of Astronomy 2024-2025 Colloquium Series Presents:
Dr. Suzanne Ramsay, Deputy Manager for ESO’s Instrumentation Programme
"ESO’ Extremely Large Telescope"
During this talk, the European Southern Observatory Extremely Large Telescope Programme will be described, from the scientific motivations for this 38-m telescope to the status of the construction in Chile. Special attention will be given to the scientific instrumentation planned to meet the science goals of astronomers when the telescope comes in to operation before the end of the decade. Three instruments and a facility adaptive optics system are in construction with the early design phases of the next generation well underway.
