Originally from the United Kingdom, Benjamin Gaughran brings with him a wealth and breadth of experience as a musician, music educator and conductor. Benjamin has been a music director at a number of musical theatre companies and choirs/ensembles throughout the UK. Currently, he is the conductor of the Women’s Chamber Chorus based in Ann Arbor. Furthermore, he has conducted all levels of ensembles from children’s groups to semi-professional ensembles and everything in between.
Benjamin received his bachelor of music degree from the Royal Holloway College, University of London. Following his studies he was the director of music at St Thomas More Catholic School, London where he directed the school choir and carried out annual European tours. Over the last twenty years he has also led community choruses and musical theater groups across England, helping to bring the joy of the choral art to all parts of society. His performances have also taken him around Europe and into the US.
After a successful career in England as a music educator and freelance choral conductor, Benjamin, his wife and their five children took the decision to move to the United States where Benjamin is attending graduate school at the University of Michigan studying choral conducting with Dr. Eugene Rogers. Benjamin is a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music in Choral Conducting- a qualification held by only a handful of people throughout the world.
