MCACA Awards $20,320 for Annual Exhibition

Award supports curation, publicity, and exhibit design.

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) has awarded PCAP $20,320 to support the 23rd Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners. The Annual Exhibition is one of the largest of its kind in the world, exhibiting 550 pieces by artists in Michigan prisons in 2017.

The exhibit helps incarcerated citizens to become artists, brings their work into the public realm in order to humanize prisoners, and connects students and community members directly to the effect of mass incarceration and the power of art as sustenance. Last year, there were 4,150 visits to the gallery during the show's two-week run in Ann Arbor.

The 23rd Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners runs March 21 - April 4, 2018, in the Duderstadt Center Gallery on the University of Michigan's North Campus. The opening reception will be held March 22, 2018. Sales begin at 6:00 PM, with a program at 7:00 PM.
