The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) has awarded PCAP $22,635 to support the 24th Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners. The Annual Exhibition is one of the largest of its kind in the world, exhibiting over 600 pieces by artists in Michigan prisons in 2018.
The exhibit helps incarcerated citizens to become artists, brings their work into the public realm in order to humanize prisoners, and connects students and community members directly to the effect of mass incarceration and the power of art as sustenance. Last year, there were 3,697 visits to the gallery during the show's two-week run in Ann Arbor.
The 24th Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners runs March 20 - April 3, 2019, in the Duderstadt Center Gallery on the University of Michigan's North Campus. The opening reception will be held March 20, 2019. Sales begin at 6:00 p.m., with a program at 7:00 p.m.
