How WiL fits into OS:
Women in Leadership (WiL) is a club dedicated to the personal, professional, and holistic development of Organizational Studies students during their time in the OS major. WiL is a resource for people of all genders and focuses on creating events for the OS cohorts and prospective students that will benefit them both in their college careers and their personal lives. Through these events, WiL seeks to create a tight-knit community and empower it to recognize their individual and group strengths. While WiL is a club for people of all genders, the club seeks to use its platform to highlight women’s experiences and the challenges they, and other marginalized communities, face. By shedding light on these experiences, it is WiL’s hope that all members will feel empowered to discuss and take action to improve their communities and organizations.
History of WiL:
Women in Leadership began as an early initiative out of the Barger Leadership Institute’s (BLI) Small Projects initiatives. For four years WiL was fully funded by the BLI, however, when the institute began to become its own organization, WiL moved towards OS and has been there ever since. For the last 12 years, WiL has committed itself to enact its mission and vision to help its members grow professionally and personally.
The experiences and conversations I had with WiL and the leadership team were some of the most meaningful moments in my college career. WiL has given me the greatest of friends and OS memories.

I learned valuable skills and lessons from the work we did to build a community of empowerment through WiL events and workshops, but more than anything I’m so grateful for the friendships I made with the team. I know these are connections I’ll have and cherish for a lifetime.

More from past WiL members...
"WiL was my first opportunity at U-M to be involved in a specifically women led group/club. Honestly, my decision to get involved with WiL was one of the best decisions I made during my undergrad years."
-Emily Furtado ('20)
"I left each community event, speaker presentation, or workshop feeling empowered and bonded with the other WiL members, and this continually refueled me amidst a stressful senior year."
