Utilizing HR to Implement Social Change
The Human Resources department is the most political department in any organization; it’s people making decisions about other people. Every action and decision by an HR agent impacts the workplace culture, individual employees’ experience, and the overall performance of an organization. Making strategic choices and implementing innovative, efficient, and effective initiatives, policies, and training are important aspects of HR in an organization. Ideally, these choices will have a positive impact on employees’ performance, dedication, and job satisfaction. The more comfortable, confident, and empowered an employee feels, the more positive changes they can make. This is where I want to be–making the HR decisions that will lift up my organization’s employees and further the organization’s mission. Through my Organizational Studies degree, I have studied how a job in Human Resources is about making decisions that further enable an organization to succeed. Through my Political Science degree, I have learned about societal and political issues that need creative solutions. I plan to put these two areas of passion together, by making smart, innovative decisions internally that enable organizations to successfully implement external change. I hope to work in politically adjacent organizations working toward social change, making the decisions that will empower employees to be their best selves, in order to make the world better.
