Health Advocacy and Non-Profits
The intersection between public health issues within the framework of non-profits is something that is necessary for the amelioration of health for all individuals. Non-profits that focus on the individuals who make up a community and their needs are what create the most needed change. Through studying the framework of non-profits through the implementation of positive business practices that work to ameliorate the community it serves, health policies and issues that affect different communities in terms of access and equity can be made more visible and accessible. Through a pathway of non-profit work and health inequity studies, I hope to pursue a career that works to uniquely serve needs that may not be immediately covered or visible under current public health policy. This includes health advocation through trained professionals like doulas and registered nurses, identity-based health networks, and emergency funding for health issues. To accomplish this goal, I plan to pursue a Masters in Public Health while integrating the skills and experience I gain in Organizational Studies.
