Organizational Strategy as a Solution for Environmental Health Challenges
In the globalized world, human organization is integral to understanding how to approach problems produced as a result of climate change and rapid anthropogenic expansion. From corporations to nonprofits to governments, organizations are inherently problem-solvers, and understanding how to strategically enact initiatives is a crucial role of an organization within society. Environmental health carries aspects of sustainability for its intrinsic value, but it also involves protection of humans, especially those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Thus, strategic problem-solving is an act of protection by organizations and should be considered as such.
Through my OS education, I have gained an understanding of the role that individuals can play in steering/fulfilling an organization’s mission. I have also seen the role that interrelated organizations can play in a globalized environment. We are eternally at a crucial turning point in environmental degradation, and each decision we make can fundamentally alter the future. In my career, I hope that I will be able to promote healthy organizational engagement with environmental concerns across all sectors and in all communities. The Organizational Studies program has helped prepare me for this through applied learning and a holistic approach to the operations of organizations, and I’m beyond grateful for this educational community.
