Understanding Human Decision Making to Optimize Organizational Success
During my introductory courses in Economics, I became fascinated by the idea that each choice we make and dollar we spend involves foregoing another viable opportunity. When presented with different opportunity costs, our decisions are shaped by a host of intersectional factors such as our education, legal constraints, population demographics, socio-economic status, race and personal values. The Organizational Studies curriculum will provide me with the theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to understand the external factors that guide human decision making. I am interested in seeing how an understanding of human dynamics can be used to promote employee satisfaction and improve organizational structure in a business. Specifically, I am interested in how individuals within firms make decisions and how these decisions impact the firm as a whole. Courses in Organizational Theory, Sociology, Marketing, and Economics will provide me with the framework to understand the tradeoffs that humans must make as they navigate their respective industries. This knowledge will be instrumental in promoting higher levels of efficiency, satisfaction, and success within firms. The Organizational Studies major will provide me with the skills and foundations necessary to pursue a career in business.
