Language & Leadership: Cultivating Quality Organizational Communication Through Foreign Language Education
In a world interconnected by human relationships, we are forced to communicate across different cultures and identities everyday. Whether it be a business negotiation or a child learning in a classroom, the importance of foreign languages and cross-cultural knowledge continues to grow as human beings continue to navigate our globalized societies. With an estimated majority of the world knowing more than one language, many US Americans fall behind with their monolingualism. Even though English is spoken and acquired by many all over the globe, widening one's linguistic and cultural knowledge will pave the way towards more effective and meaningful communication. From body language and cultural norms to written text and spoken word, this communication serves as the key to fostering successful relationships within and between organizations of all shapes and sizes.
With my Organizational Studies education, paired with concentrations in Linguistics, Education, and Spanish, I am preparing myself for graduate study at the intersection of Languages and Organizational Behavior. In my future, I plan to cultivate stronger motivations and methods to acquire foreign languages and ultimately apply that growth to better our schools, businesses, and relationships on a domestic and international scale.
