Elevating Inclusion for Those with Disabilities by Addressing Current Inequities Within Society to Ensure Positive Individual Outcomes
My pathway aims to answer two questions: What inclusion means and how it manifests within society and organizations around the world. I am intrigued by the fundamentals of well-run organizations and the positive impact that they can make on individuals long term. I will shape my pathway to ensure that I am able to advocate and be an ally to those diagnosed with a developmental disability. To do that, it is critical to understand how those with disabilities and their families fit and navigate the often difficult hurdles within society. As I incorporate my endeavors within the field of psychology, I will use the Organization Studies program to widen my scope of the inequities already in place to make way for long term solutions. It is through these avenues that I will be able to develop early interventional methods that engage parents while striving to change the current social constructs that hold our children to a rigid expectation of perceived success, so that society recognizes that a child born with a disability is something gained rather than lost.
