Mobilizing the Law to Enact Positive Social Change
Our American society is founded on the principles of justice, equality, and the notion that one can do well when provided with ample opportunities. However, in actuality, our laws that are designed to treat everyone equally, often perpetuate inequality. I want to immerse myself in the study of our laws and their effect on individuals as well as groups. This will allow me to better understand the origins of inequalities in social class, race, gender, and education. I hope to utilize Organizational Studies to take courses that enable me to not only examine the myriad of problems created by inequity, but to have the opportunity to examine the issues of our legal system in a real world setting and enact change. We need to achieve a more fair and just society and it is my goal that my studies will lead me to find the best avenue to create needed change. I have always been keenly interested in the nature of nonprofit and legal organizations and their ability to create real change. My goal is to study and work within these organizations to make them more efficient, resulting in better outcomes for all members of society.
