Virtual Internships

The Hub Internship Program offers virtual internships in a variety of industries with organizations around the world. Through remote experiential learning and flexible hours, virtual internships allow students to remain committed to school, work, family, or other activities that can make leaving town for an in-person internship a challenge.

Students will enhance their digital communication skills through phone, email, and video conference and make impactful connections with mentors and employers from around the world.

Virtual internships are offered year-round in either single semester format (for a minimum of 6 weeks) or full academic year format:

Single Semester | Fall (Sept-Dec), Winter (Jan-April), Summer (May-Aug)

Full Academic Year | Fall-Winter (Sept-April)

Benefits

The benefits and opportunities are many:

  • Flexible Hours: Interns will be able to set their own work schedule, tailoring it to fit within their existing schedules.

  • Become an Expert Communicator: Students will gain valuable experience in the nuance of communicating across a range of platforms including video conference, email, and phone.

  • Accessible Opportunities: Virtual internships increase access to high-quality, meaningful experiential learning through a year-round format and, in many cases, a lower financial burden.

  • Build Robust Connections: Our full academic year internships, that can run between September and April, offer students a unique opportunity to hone their skills and build stronger relationships with mentors and employers.

  • In-Person Cohort Meetings: Students undertaking virtual internships will have access to programming that is, in many ways, identical to the programming offered to students pursuing in-person opportunities. One key distinction is that students undertaking virtual internships that fall within the academic year (Sept-April) will meet with their peers a few times over the course of their internships to share insights, experiences, and advice about the virtual internship experience.

How to Apply

Virtual internships within the Hub Internship Program are listed on the Opportunity Network. Use the “Position Type” filter and select “Hub Internship Program-Virtual” to view current listings.

For help using the Network, visit the Student Help page.

Funding

A key benefit of virtual internships is that the financial costs associated with pursuing them are often significantly lower. Currently, virtual internships are ineligible for funding through the LSA Internship Scholarship. However, other funding opportunities may be available. Please see the Funding for Internships page for more information.
