Dolphins and Data Off the Coast of Croatia

Sebastian Kasparian | Senior | Environment

Sebastian Kasparian’s first few weeks on the Croatian island of Veli Losinj were spent in a tiny boat, learning to identify dolphins by their fins. Time at sea became part of Kasparian’s daily work routine as a research intern for the Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conservation. “It’s a strange thing when you first start working on it because it’s hard to comprehend how it will fit into the bigger picture,” said Kasparian. “But the end goal is quite important: to help inform policy and make more public knowledge about conservation issues.” He interned abroad with the Samo Alajbegovic Fellowship through the LSA Opportunity Hub, which provides scholarship support to students working in the countries bordering the Adriatic Sea.
