Interning for Parliament in Dublin
Melanie Taetle | Junior | Political Science and History
“This summer has been a huge growing experience for me. I’ve been challenged in ways that I haven’t been challenged before in terms of living, working, and thriving abroad. I think the part that really blows my mind the most is the fact that I can now put that I’ve interned for a Member of Parliament in Ireland on my resume.
Different cultural practices coupled with different work place dynamics made adapting to work more challenging than I anticipated. Now, I think I can say that I can very easily adapt to new work environments easily, which will be a great skill to have in the future. I think I learned a great deal about the key differences in political processes, ideologies, and cultures between Ireland and the U.S. I think understanding the differences in how Americans and Europeans perceive politics through my experiences here will be very important if I choose to go into politics in the future.”
