Hub Workshop: Career Fair Prep

Wednesday, September 15, 2021
3:00-4:00 PM
Did you know that many career fairs are still happening virtually this fall? Career fairs remain an important part of your career exploration journey because they’re a one-stop destination to discovering more organizations, emerging industry trends, and new career paths. They also give you direct access to recruiters eager to hire emerging young professionals like yourself.

If you’re planning to attend a virtual career fair this year, join the LSA Opportunity Hub for a virtual workshop organized into two parts: The first is an online Canvas module that focuses on how to prepare for a virtual career fair while the second is a live and interactive session led by a Hub coach that provides a space for questions on how to best utilize your time during and after the event. The online Canvas module opens on Tuesday, September 15, and will cover the following:
Strategies and best practices on effectively communicating your strengths and relevant experience to recruiters at the career fair
Videos filled with helpful tips on maintaining lasting connections with professional contacts after an event that can build up your network.

You should access this online Canvas module and attend this virtual workshop if you are:
A liberal arts and/or sciences (LSA) student
Planning on attending an upcoming virtual career fair
Eager to learn how to strategically develop intentional questions that can drive meaningful conversations with recruiters
Looking for ways to build sustainable, professional connections with recruiters and organizations you hope to work with

What you’ll gain:
Adopt and learn new methods for preparing for the upcoming virtual career fairs
Develop an effective elevator pitch that can be used to initiate conversations with recruiters
Identify effective ways of communicating your experiences and skills during conversations with recruiters
Build strategies for maintaining recruiter connections that extend beyond the career fair

Moderate Interaction
Video and audio presence is preferred
The event will be a mixture of interactive activities and passive viewing
NOTE: Students who cannot participate as recommended are still encouraged to attend
