Future Graduate Program or Career Experience

These opportunities are available to current U-M undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent alumni. They offer graduate education tuition, research funding, and/or career-building experience after receiving a Bachelor's degree.

Future U.S. Government and Civic Service

Truman Scholarship

Provides $30,000 for graduate education and professional development for future leaders committed to public service careers.

Payne Fellowship

Awards up to $52,000 annually for a two-year master's degree in international development or another area of relevance to USAID.

Rangel Fellowship

Funds two years of graduate study, internships, and professional development activity for individuals pursuing careers in the Foreign Service.

Clarke DS Fellowship

Provides up to $38,000 annually for a two-year master's degree for individuals pursuing careers in the Foreign Service.

Pickering Fellowship

Provides up to $42,000 annually for a two-year master's degree and Foreign Service entry requirements for individuals pursuing careers in the Foreign Service.

Leadership in the U.S. and Abroad

Schwarzman Scholars

Global leadership program that provides scholars with a fully-funded one-year Master’s in Global Studies at the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing.

PD Soros Fellowship for New Americans

Up to three years of fellowship support for new Americans, immigrants or the children of immigrants, who are pursuing graduate school in the U.S. 

Yenching Scholars

Two-year Master's program in China Studies at Peking University in Beijing, an intensive program of interdisciplinary classroom and field study of Chinese history, culture, and real-time issues.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars

Awards up to three years of funding for any graduate program at Stanford for future leaders dedicating to tackling the world's greatest problems.

Michel-David Weill Scholarship

Provides two years of funding for a Master's program at Sciences Po in Paris with preference to students pursuing economics.

McCall-MacBain Scholars

Covers a fully funded Master's at McGill University in Montréal, Quebec for scholars with demonstrated leadership potential.

Beinecke Scholarship

Provides $34,000 scholarships to financial-aid elligible students applying for graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

Leadership in the UK

Rhodes Scholarship 

Fully funds 2-4 years of graduate study at Oxford University in any field. 

Kanders-Churchill Scholarship

Funds one year of graduate research and study in science policy at Cambridge. 

Marshall Scholarship

Funds two years of graduate study at any UK institution in a variety of fields.

Mitchell Scholarship

One year of graduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.

International and Experiential Opportunities

Gaither Junior Fellows 

One-year fellowships for  graduating seniors or young alums to work as research assistants at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. 

Wallenberg Fellowship

Provides $25,000 for a U-M senior to complete a self-designed fellowship anywhere in the world the year after graduation.

Graduate STEM Research

Churchill Scholarship

Funds one year of graduate research and study in a STEM field at Cambridge.

(NIH) Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program

MD-PhD at partnering MSTPs (MD) and research mentors at NIH and Oxford or Cambridge.

NSF-GRFP

A three-year annual stipend, plus opportunities for international research and professional development.

Gates-Cambridge Scholarship

Full funding for any graduate program at Cambridge in any field.
