The University of Michigan's Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships is proud to announce the newest U-M Rhodes Scholar! Amytess Girgis is an LSA Senior in Political Science and the LSA Honors Program.
During her time at U-M, she has served as president of the Michigan Stamps Scholars Society and is an active community and university organizer. At Oxford, Amytess plans to pursue an interdisciplinary B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE).
Established in 1902, the Rhodes Scholarship fully funds 2-3 years of graduate study at Oxford University in any field. Scholars pursue either a taught or research-based Master’s or Doctoral degree.
Elliot F. Gerson, American Secretary of the Rhodes Trust, said this year's class of 32 American Rhodes Scholars celebrates the diversity of the United States. "They are leaders already, and we are confident that their contributions to public welfare globally will expand exponentially over the course of their careers.” (Rhodes Trust)
