About
Dr. Huynh received her PhD and master's degree from the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is originally from Beaverton, Oregon and attended college at Loyola Marymount University. Her research focuses on understanding social and cultural factors — such as discrimination and ethnic socialization — that influence the academic, psychological, and physical well-being of ethnic minority and immigrant children and adolescents.
Current Work:
Dr. Huynh studies how racism and discrimination affects children and families. Her research has found that discrimination is related many problems, ranging from mental health (such as poor self esteem, depressive symptoms) to physical health (such as poor sleep and dysregulated stress responses). Currently, Dr. Huynh is looking at if, how, and when parents talk to their kids about race and racism.
