Dr. Mathur is an assistant professor of diversity science and well-being at Texas A&M University. She completed a PhD in psychology as a Society, Biology, & Health Fellow from Northwestern University and interdisciplinary post-doctoral training at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. In her work, she takes a transdisciplinary approach to tackle the problem of pain disparities — considering interpersonal, cultural, structural, and physiological factors.
Current Work:
Dr. Mathur studies how lived experiences and environments influence pain experience and physiology. Current projects include studies of labor pain disparities; examinations of built and natural environments on health and pain; and the influence of cultural and lay beliefs about pain on pain experience and pain treatment.
