Dr. Srividya "Srivi" Ramasubramanian is a Presidential Impact Fellow and professor of communication at Texas A&M University, where she is the director of the Difficult Dialogues on Campus Race Relations and has served as associate dean for climate & inclusion. She is most widely recognized for her pioneering work on critical media effects, media literacy, difficult dialogues, race and media, and prejudice reduction. She has (co)founded several initiatives such as the Difficult Dialogues on Campus Race Relations, Communicating Diversity Student Conference, First-Gen Freshmen Mentoring Program (FIG), Inclusive Pedagogy Workshop Series, and a nonprofit for meaningful media for social change called Media Rise. She is the associate editor of the Journal of Applied Communication Research and serves on the editorial board of eight leading journals in communication and media studies. A TEDx speaker, she has delivered several keynotes and invited talks in the US, UK, Singapore, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, India, and China. Her work is featured in popular news outlets such as the Huffington Post, National Public Radio, Dallas Morning News, and India Today. She was recently named Presidential Impact Fellow, a prestigious honor awarded to select faculty at her university for "rising to meet the challenges of their field and demonstrating impact towards creating a better world." Other awards include the NAMLE Outstanding Media Literacy Researcher Award, the Liberal Arts Cornerstone Faculty Fellowship 2018-2022, Center for Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellowship, Service Learning Faculty Fellowship, Graduate Faculty Mentoring Awards in 2017 and 2019, Liberal Arts Achievements in Climate & Inclusion Award, NCA Mass Comm Division Service Award, ACE Award for Women’s Progress, and the Outstanding Diversity Team Award.
Current Work:
Srivi Ramasubramanian's current projects examine critical media effects, race and media, digital new media literacy, difficult dialogues, antiracism, communication scholar-activism, and data for social justice. Her new book "Quantitative Research Methods in Communication: The Power of Numbers for Social Justice” by Routledge is now available for pre-order. She routinely facilitates dialogue-based workshops for several organizations on topics such as action-oriented diversity initiatives, inclusive communication, team building, race relations, and organizational well-being.
