About
Shafiqa Ahmadi, JD, is an associate professor of clinical education at the University of Southern California, Rossier School of Education and is the founding co-director for the research Center for Education, Identity and Social Justice. She is an expert on diversity and legal protection of underrepresented students, including Muslims, bias and hate crimes, and sexual assault survivors. She received her doctor of jurisprudence from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, Bloomington, Indiana.
Current Work:
Ahmadi's current research addresses disparities in the following areas: 1) Title — #MeToo movement and #TimesUP in higher education; and 2) centering the identities of marginalized students, such as Muslim students, LGBTQ, racial/ethnic, as well as the intersection of these identities that create multiple burdens of oppression. She has a forthcoming edited book titled," Islamophobia in Higher Education: Combatting Discrimination and Creating Understanding" (co-edited with Darnell Cole).
Her three most recent publications include: 1) "Protecting Muslim Students Speech and Expression and Resisting Islamophobia," co-authored with Mable Sanchez, & Darnell Cole. 2) "Understanding Islamophobia on college campuses" co-authored with Darnell Cole & Monica Prado. And 3) Theory vs. practice: Women's rights and gender equity in Afghanistan.
