About
Dr. Sabita Persaud serves as the associate dean for adult undergraduate and graduate studies at Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Nursing. She received her BSN and MS in community health nursing from the University of Maryland Baltimore and PhD in health services from Walden University. She specializes in the area of community/public health nursing education with a specific focus on vulnerable populations. Her research focus has consistently centered around issues faced by underrepresented minorities.
Dr. Persaud recently completed her term as president of the Maryland Board of Nursing and was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women of 2018. She also volunteers with several community organizations including the St. Vincent de Paul and Girl Scouts of Central Maryland.
Current Work:
Dr. Persaud has been actively involved in research related to addressing social determinants of health (SDH) through nursing practice. Most recently she has published her research on the use of simulation to enhance nurses' knowledge and assessment of the SDH in practice.
Her current scholarship focuses on preparing underrepresented minority nurses to address the social determinants of health as leaders in the profession. Currently, she is conducting research on the barriers faced by these nurses as the pursue leadership positions in healthcare.
