About
Ramona Beltrán, MSW, PhD is an an associate professor at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work. Her scholarship is committed to interrupting legacies of historical trauma that affect Indigenous and Latinx communities. She focuses on disrupting the problem-focused approach to understanding Indigenous/Latinx health and well being that is profuse in mainstream research. She does this through centering culture, resilience, resistance, healing, and storytelling methods in knowledge production with and for Indigenous/Latinx communities.
Current Work:
Ramona Beltrán is currently working on two projects that address health disparities in Indigenous communities. The first is an alcohol and other drugs and HIV needs assessment with an urban Mexican American Indian community. We are asking community members about their experiences of both needs and strengths related to these health issues. The second is an in-depth oral history project that seeks to create a community-based, community owned archive centering Indigenous health knowledge.
